DASTA welcomes the Study Group under the Futuru Lider ba ASEAN (FLBA) Project from Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste
On 24 July 2026, Mr. Siripakorn Cheawsamoot, the Director-General, has assigned Ms. Watcharee Churugsa, Deputy Director-General for Operation, Mr. Harit Laowittayawong, Acting Director of Corporate Communication Office, along with the International Relations Division to welcome and exchange ideas and knowledge on sustainable tourism development with Study Group under the Futuru Lider ba ASEAN (FLBA) Project from Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste at Meeting Room 1, DASTA Head Office.
The Study Group was scheduling to visit Thailand during 20 - 24 July 2026 with the aims of encouraging ten young leaders from various sectors of Timor-Leste to learn and exchange knowledge on Thailand's tourism management, ecotourism rules and regulations, funding for conservation, tourism marketing, community-based tourism, and sustainable tourism certification processes from various responsible organizations and entities in Thailand, such as TAT, DOT, and DASTA.
On this date, DASTA welcomed the FLBA Subgroup of 5 representatives from relevant sectors, led by Mr. Silvano Jose Branco, the representative of ecotourism, and exchange ideas and knowledge on sustainable tourism development and administration in accordance to DASTA’s roles and responsibility.
On this occasion, DASTA presented its designated areas development process, and the sustainable community-based tourism development that emphasizes the participation of local communities, and the promotion of sustainable and creative community-based tourism products into high-value markets. As well as, sustainable tourism development booklets and steps. The Study Group was interested in the process of participatory sustainable community-based tourism development DASTA, in particular its incorporation of international tourism criteria into Thai tourism contexts. Both sides agreed on the importance of balancing tourism development, fair distribution of tourism income among local communities, and long-term sustainability.
In this regard, the Study Group thanked DASTA Team for its warm welcome, especially the detailed exchange of knowledge between the two parties, with which they will incorporate into their relevant responsibilities and tourism contexts in Timor-Leste in the future.
