“Hua Hin: the UNESCO’s Creative City in Art and Music” of 2022
On January 12th, 2022, Dr. Katchapon Janphet, the Head of Tourism Innovation from the Office of Capacity Building in Tourism, and Ms. Nilwan Toonkoomthong, the Director of Operation from the Office of Designated Area 8, as the representatives of Gp. Capt. Athikun Kongmee, the Director of DASTA, joined the 1st Working Group Meeting of the project “Hua Hin: the UNESCO’s Creative City in Art and Music” of 2022, which was chaired by Mr. Ram Singhasophit, the Acting Mayor of Hua Hin, at Hua Hin’s District Office in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
The objectives of this meeting were to initiate the plan of implementation and to appraise the activities, work plans and projects which are to be included in the strategic plan of Prachuap Khiri Khan Province’s development of the 2023 fiscal year.
Upon the meeting, the committees agreed that
- DASTA shall take a role in providing consultation for Hua Hin during its process of preparation to join UNESCO’s Creative City partnership, which is anticipated to open for application in 2023
- With its experience as part of the driving force contributing Phetburi to become UNESCO’s Creative City partner, Silpakorn University shall also be a consultant in the preparation process for application.
- Should the sub-group meetings be convened in order to simultaneously acknowledge the progress of implementation
After the end of the meeting, the representatives of DASTA were invited to discuss with the board committees of Hua Hin Municipality on the matter of how to strengthen Hua Hin’s potential as a sustainable tourist destination, as Hua Hin Municipality has been guaranteed by universally renowned standards in various aspects, for instance, Global Green City Award, Excellent Regional Environmentally Sustainable City, WWF Thailand and One Province and One Livable City from (2017 - 2021). In this regard, Hua Hin Municipality requested DASTA to arrange guest speakers in order to contribute to knowledge sharing in sustainable tourism development, community-based tourism and Sustainable Tourism Management Standard.
